A new study adds to the evidence that low-dose aspirin, known to reduce the risk for heart disease, may also reduce the risk for pancreatic cancer.
Lifestyle change that can help prevent cancer

The basic ways to prevent cancer is to eat healthy and to exercise regularly. But many a times we do not have enough time for exercise. In such cases what to do? How do one lower the risk and take prevent cancer? Here are easy and simple lifestyle modification that one can adopt to help prevent cancer.
You can prevent the risk of having cancer by switching on to non-stick and stain resistant products. Scotchgard and Teflon are brand names for perfluroooctanoic acid, which is used to protect clothes, carpets and furniture from stains and water; to cook food without sticking; and to prevent grease from leaking out of microwave food containers. This acid is associated with birth and developmental defects, brain and nervous system disorders, immune system problems, and cancer. Scientists advice to ditch pans with scratches, since the PFOA can seep into food.
From body soap to counter spray, the products we use to clean ourselves and our homes can affect us negatively. The antibacterial ingredient triclosan, which is in most liquid soaps, some toothpastes, many body care products and even some toys, has been linked to organ system and reproductive toxicity, irritation, hormone disruption and cancer. Studies have shown that overuse of these antibacterial ingredients has helped to create new resistant bacteria. Scientist say that plain white soap and water are just as effective as another antibacterial soap. Many natural products like baking soda, vinegar and so on are also effective.
The effective use of pesticides has its own harmful causes. Farmer who work with them have higher rates of skin, lip, stomach, lung, brain, blood and lymphatic system cancers. Also even after washing items like berries or peppers, you may be unable to get the pesticides off. In such case you should either peel off the skin or switch to organic food.
Forty percent of U.S. community water systems operate in violation of the Safe Water Drinking Act, which sets drinking water quality standards. This means that 23 million Americans receive low-quality drinking water. Cancer-causing elements found in state water supplies across the U.S. include arsenic and radioactive radium-226.
Traditional dry cleaners use a solvent called perchloroethylene to clean delicate fabrics. An exposure to the solvents vapor an also have certain effects on kidney and liver. Therefore people who live above dry-cleaning establishments have higher rates of cancer, as do dry-cleaning workers. If you do dry-clean your clothes, strip them of their plastic and leave them to air out away from your house.
Can food cause cancer? Here is the list of cancer causing foods

We are know the causes of cancer. It could be hereditary or may be caused due to some environmental factor. Many people try their best to stay away from this dreadful disease. They take numerous steps to prevent themselves. However, there is evidence that limiting the consumption of some foods could prevent or delay the onset of cancer, especially for those with a known family history of cancers of the digestive system. Cancer causing food are typically rich in refined sugars, processed carbohydrates, preservatives and by-products of deep-frying. Many of these foods also have harmful effects on health in general, effecting the cardiovascular, nervous and reproductive system. These cancer causing food further lead to the development of diabetes, obesity and other heart diseases.
1. Sweet beverages: Food sources high in refined sugars such as sweetened beverages, sodas and many juices can increase cancer risk. A 2010 study stated that people who consume two or more servings of soda per week have an 87% higher chance of developing pancreatic cancer compared to individuals who do not consume soft drinks. Other studies have also shown a link between sugar consumption and cancers of the stomach and colon. While sugar itself does not directly turn healthy cells into cancer, it is the preferred food source for cancerous cells and helps to promote tumor growth during the tumor formation process. Over time, a heavy sugar intake can also increase overall metabolic output of cells, increasing the amount of oxidative by-products that are produced and released into their environment.
2. Fried food: This we all know that fried food not only increases the risk of cholesterol and other heart diseases, but also risks the developing of cancer especially when they contain hydrogenated oils, trans-fats, and a by-product of the deep-frying process called acrylamide. Acrylamide is a well- known tumor causing agent and also a potent neurotoxin, having adverse effects not only on the brain, but on the reproductive system as well. High level carbohydrate food like fried potatoes like French fries, tater tots and so on produce acrylamide during the frying process.
3. Doughnuts: Doughnuts are the culmination of three major classes of cancer causing foods. They are deep fried, they contain tons and tons of sugar and they are based on heavily refined carbohydrates. The combination of by-products from the frying process together with heavy amounts of sugar and processed flour make doughnuts particularly risky to those hoping to reduce cancer risk.
4. Hot dogs: Preserved, cured or pickled meats are a known risk factor in stomach cancer and other malignancies of the digestive system. Such meats turn out to be more dangerous for our health when other ingredients like sodium nitrate which is a key preservative in hot dogs and other meat products, is added. Hot dogs and other preserved, salted meats such as bacon or bologna should be consumed in moderation or avoided, especially for those at risk for stomach cancer.
5. Burned Meats: When organic plant or animal matter is burned, a number of toxic, mutagenic by-products are formed. Many of these by-products are exactly the same as those produced in the burning of tobacco that accounts for the toxic and cancer promoting effects of cigarettes.
Cancer Is Not Winning – Why I am Riding the Ride to Conquer Cancer
Erica Voll is a social media marketer and blogger who is riding and raising money for the Abramson Cancer Center through the Philadelphia Ride to Conquer Cancer this October. In this blog, she writes about why she’s riding to help researchers at Penn conquer cancer. Be sure to follow her blog, No Sleep ’til College and Instagram for updates on her training and the ride. I am tired of cancer winning. I know cancer doesn’t always “win.” There have been amazing breakthroughs in cancer research that has led to better detection, more individualized treatments, and therapies that have led to many remissions. But with every diagnosis, with every scare and with every scan, cancer interrupts lives. Rich, full lives filled with family, friends, and things still left to do and see all of the sudden seem too short. In the past 10 years or so, I’ve met too many young people diagnosed with cancer.A new mom who thought the lump in her breast was a clogged milk duct she got while breastfeeding.A young mother of three who found a lump in her chest while in the shower getting ready to take her kids to school.A father who had to find a way to tell his children he was very ill, and that the outlook was not good. These are the stories that make me stop in my tracks, look around, and say, “What is going on here??? Why aren’t we shouting from the rooftops,’We’re tired of being bullied by horrible disease!'”But when I look around, I see hope. I see the Abramson Cancer Center just over the bridge from my home in New Jersey. I see a place where the best and brightest cancer researchers are making strides in cancer, so that our bodies can fight smarter. I see a place, where cancer isn’t winning. I see a place where the super heroes are researchers, doctors, nurses and caregivers. I see a place where people with cancer aren’t giving up.I am so inspired by the work happening at the Abramson Cancer Center, I wanted to do what I could to support research there – I joined the Ride to Conquer Cancer®.The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a 2-day, roughly 150-mile bike ride through the countryside (read: hilly) of Philadelphia’s suburbs. Every dollar raised through the ride goes to cancer research at the Abramson Cancer Center.Every dollar.Won’t you join me to help support cancer research? The Ride to Conquer Cancer®Join Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) on October 11 to 12, 2014 in the Ride to Conquer Cancer (RTCC)—an unforgettable and epic bike ride through Pennsylvania’s picturesque landscape -towards one life-changing destination: to cure cancer. 7 Most common cancers in America

Cancer is a broad term used to encompass several malignant diseases. There are over 100 different types of cancer, affecting various parts of the body. Each type of cancer is unique with its own causes, symptoms, and methods of treatment. Like with all groups of disease, some types of cancer are more common than others. Here is the list of most common cancers in America.
1.Skin cancer: Skin cancer is divided into the non-melanoma and melanoma categories. Non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common type of cancer among men and women. Exposure to the UV rays of the sun is the primary cause for non-melanoma skin cancer and also melanoma. Non-melanoma (basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer) is the more common form with over 2,000,000 cases expected to be diagnosed in the country in 2012. It affects approximately five percent of people diagnosed with skin cancer, but is attributed to over 75 percent of all skin cancer deaths.
2.Lung cancer: During 2012, 226,160 new cases of lung cancer were expected to be diagnosed in the U.S. Lung cancer accounts for about 28 percent of all cancer deaths. An estimated 160,340 deaths were expected to occur from lung cancer in 2012. Cigarette smoking is the most important risk factor for lung cancer.
3.Prostate cancer: It’s estimated that 1 in 6 men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. It’s the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men (excluding skin cancer) and the second most common cause of death. Doctors say that PSA screenings and digital rectal exams (DRE) can help for early detection.
4.Breast cancer: According to the American Cancer Society, 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to occur during 2012 in the U.S. More than 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States each year. After lung cancer, breast cancer is the second cause of death among women.
5.Colorectal cancer: It is the third most common cancer among men and women. An estimated 103,170 new cases of colon and 40,290 cases of rectal cancer were expected to occur in 2012.
6.Kidney cancer: Tobacco is a strong risk factor for kidney cancer, as well as obesity and hypertension. The American Cancer Society estimated 64,770 new cases of kidney (renal) cancer in 2012 with 13,570 deaths from this disease.
7.Bladder cancer: Blood in the urine is a common symptom of urinary bladder cancer. An estimated 73,510 new cases of this cancer were expect in 2012. Surgery, in many cases, used.
