Miracle drugs proclaiming to deal with cancer often swindle many willing to leave no stone unturned in order to save their loved ones from the dreaded disease called cancer. The diagnosis of cancer affects not only the patients, but also their near and dear ones. It is a disease that evokes instant fear and anxiety of an early and painful end of life. Once the treatment starts, the fear starts metamorphosing into suffering, pain and uncertainty. It is not very unusual for patients to become numb when they hear the word “cancer”. One has to realise that to deal with cancer can be thwarted in many cases in today’s medically advanced world and that one should not give up in one’s fight to deal with cancer.

The question “Why Me?” is bound to come to one’s mind but we need to accept that there is nothing fair about having cancer. It goes without saying that being diagnosed with cancer is not easy to handle. One’s past experiences and the beliefs that one has developed in the course of one’s life help the individual in dealing with the mental impact of the disease.To deal with cancer in a positive way can be one of the most challenging aspects of one’s life. Each individual’s way of coping with the various difficulties that are faced due to the disease itself as well as those due to its treatment is bound to be different. So much so that, each person may face different emotions and problems during this course.

Various emotions and ways to deal with cancer patients
The first emotion that one might experience is that of shock, it is not something that you expect to hear and especially so if your symptoms are not very prominent.
You may feel scared and apprehensive since most people’s knowledge of cancer is limited to it being a fatal disease. The biggest fear that people have when cancer gets detected is that of the pain, the suffering associated with it.

Another emotion that comes to mind is that of guilt and confusion. People start trying to analyse their past trying to understand if the symptoms showed themselves earlier. They try to find out the reason behind getting afflicted with cancer. Some forms of cancer being hereditary, the patients worry about their kids or loved ones also getting affected with it.

It is very important to constantly tell yourself that you can fight off this disease and lead a normal life again. Cancer is like the hurdle in a race that you need to cross and move ahead. The fear of tripping may lead to a fall but your confidence will successfully take you through. Being positive while you deal with cancer with all the sadness and anguish is easier said than done. There is always a sense of loss linked with cancer. The physical battle to deal with cancer can be won only if the war that rages within one’s mind is won. That will be victory in it’s true sense!
