Cancer is one of the most eminently fatal diseases today. This was not the case around fifty years back and this has happened because of the change in the food habits of people today. Its emergence is most visible in the western developed nations than the others. One of the major changes that a cancer patient makes in his/her lifestyle after diagnosis is the food habits of the individual. The wrong food that is fed to the body is the main reason for its development.
At least 35 percent of all cancers are related to nutritional deficiencies. To help curing cancer and also recuperate from it, eat a wide variety of foods rich in nutrients that protect the body’s cells from impairment, such as these.

  • Grapefruit has vitamin C which prevents the evolution of the cancer and helps curing cancer causing nitrogen compounds. The forms of cancer like, stomach, colon, esophagus, bladder, breast, and cervix are known to have reduced risk of occurring due to sufficient Vitamin C intake. Other sources are oranges, bell peppers, broccoli, etc. These results are generally attained through natural food rather than any supplements.
  • Peanuts and peanut butter are rich sources of vitamin E. Research has shown that vitamin E has a hand in curing cancer effectively. A vitamin E rich diet can reduce the risk of stomach, colon, lung, liver, and other cancers. It helps in keeping the cell defences strong. Other sources of this vitamin are almonds, almond butter, and sunflower seeds. Spreading a tablespoon of peanut or almond butter on a slice of whole grain bread is snack packed with cancer-fighting vitamin E.
  • Sweet potatoes provide the body with a powerful anti oxidant called Beta-carotene. It is found mainly in orange coloured and leafy green vegetables and people with a diet ranking high in this anti oxidant have a reduced risk of lung, colon, and stomach cancers. Eating a lot of vegetables that include beta-carotene, folate, vitamin C, and fibre can help in curing cancer and reducing risk by half.
  • Wild salmon is a Vitamin D rich food. Low vitamin D levels have been linked to the development of several cancers, including colon and breast. Vitamin D can block the development of blood vessels that feed growing tumours and stop the proliferation of cancerous as well as precancerous cells. Fortified dairy products, like milk and yogurt are other sources of Vitamin D. A daily multivitamin or separate supplement that provides 800 to 1,000 IUs of vitamin D is recommended.
  • Flaxseed is one of the main sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. These reduce inflammation which reduces the probability of cellular mutation. They also keep the body very healthy. Fatty fish and shellfish are other sources of omega -3 fatty acids. These can be mixed in yogurts and smoothies in their ground form and can also be consumed directly.

Eating the right quantities of the right foodstuffs is a great way of curing cancer. To strengthen the body of the weakness induced by the chemotherapy or surgery, adequate nutrition is a must!
